I get asked a lot how I got into Handpoke tattooing. I’ve had an interest in tattooing for a long time I even had my first tattoo done by hand using bamboo in Thailand when I was
20. I’ve always been into Art as long as I can remember I studied it at college and also did a fine art diploma specialising in painting.
I bought some machines around 14 years ago and tried to practice on fake skins & fruit but didn’t seem to really get into using a machine. It wasn’t until a few years after I
was introduced handpoking by another tattooist and it sparked my interest. I began looking into the history and other Artists who did it. I went to conventions and was always mesmerised by the
technique. Eventually starting to practice on fruit and a few friends. I plucked up the courage to contact a studio in Cleethorpes in 2015 who were advertising for an Artist. I thought it was a
long shot, but to my surprise they were interested and decided to give me a chance. In the beginning I was able to do 1 day a week practicing on friends and I eventually built up to tattooing the
public.
I was still at the time in a different line of work. I gradually reduced my hours and left my job in care that I had done for 12 years to work as a tattooist.
